Anna Foka

Thessaloniki-Paris

She comes and goes. She was born here. Greece and Thessaloniki still inspire her, even though she lives in Paris. Artist Anna Foka returned home for a few days at the Institute Français for the city’s 54th Dimitria Festival, bringing along her new solo exhibition «Vestiges: What is left and other stories». And then she went back to France to create more art. With her gaze steadily fixed upon her birthplace.

Her works «Verstiges», «Little Greece», relate to issues relevant to contemporary Greece. In a fictional remake of the history of her birthplace, that is Thessaloniki of her childhood, in an effort to savor the memory. After all, some of the riddles the artist aspires to solve is whether we truly ever leave anything behind, what remains out of all that we’ve lived through and if we’re defined by our experiences…
