Director, performer and singer Eleni Eftymiou was honored with an exceptional distinction, as she was bestowed with the Eleftheria Sapountzi Award 2022, for “the quality and the elaborateness of her work as an artist”, according to the reasoning of the evaluation jury.
A lifelong advocate of inclusive theater, an active member of the “En Dynamei” collective of young artists with or without disabilities and one of the artistic supervisors of the National Theater’s Youth Stage, Eleni Efthymiou has already left her mark on Greek theater.
Eleftheria Sapountzi Award, established in the memory of the too-early deceased director, was bestowed to Eleni Efthymiou by the actor and Artistic Director of Kefallinias Street Theater, Betty Arvaniti.
The jury that undertook the task of evaluating the candidates (Eleni Efthymiou, Emily Louizou, Nefeli Maistrali, Iro Bezou, Nancy Boukli) was composed of Giannis Chouvardas, Kharalampos Goyos, Sofia Marathaki, Efi Giannopoulou and Stella Charami).
Eleni Efthymiou stressed out the importance of an award dedicated to the memory of a great lady of the theater and bestowed exclusively to women. She went on to dedicate her award to all her co-candidates, as well as to all the companions in her journey as an artist, while making a special mention to the “En Dynamei” collective.
