So Much Love

Portraits, landscapes, objects. The human body, present and absent all around, emerges as the canvas of sexual and artistic expression in the photo project by Alexandros Zafeiridis, titled So Much Love. The book presentation took place on October 7th, within the framework of the Athens Art Book Fair: Show & Tell, in an event hosted at the Athens Conservatoire.

Through photographs portraying mostly friends and relatives, as well
misplaced objects, Alexandros Zafeiridis touches upon existential questions linked to the definition of identity, the perception of an individual’s image by others and the relation to the notion of otherness, forming a path that leads straight to the very core of the theory of great thinkers, such as Heidegger and Wittgenstein.

In the series’ works, several people of various ages stand before the photographer’s lens, weaving communication motifs that allude to a game. The bonds forged between the models and the photographers, as well as between their inner self and their sexual depiction, become part of this uncommon game.

Alexandros Zafeiridis was born in 1994, in Philadelphia, USA, and moved to Thessaloniki at the age of six. He studied Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, before making his first steps in photography. He attended photo seminars held at Stereosis School of Photography and classes delivered by Stratos Kalafatis and Todd Hido. His work has been showcased and published both in Greece and abroad.

The photo book So Much Love is a fruit of the collaboration between L.LAB (Lia Nalbantidou & L.Loves Artists’ Books) and Alexandros Zafeiridis.

The L.LAB initiative was founded by Lia Nalbantidou and backed by Stratos Kalafatis, Ioustini Drakoulakou and Nikos Kahrimanis, with the aim of surpassing issues of non-visibility. “With the bedrock of a longstanding stint in photography, our passion for photo printing and our love for storytelling, our goal is to offer a many-sided support to photobooks and self-publishing. We aspire to contribute through our actions to the creation of a collective history of self-publications,” she points out.
