MATAROA | Street Art Contest

Call For Expressions Of Interest

*Update: The submission of entries closed on 31/7.

Public space and appropriation. Urban landscape and interventions.

Artistic activity in public urban space has often been a field of fruitful dialogue, successfully fulfilling the function of art as a field of social reflection. In the context of the promotion of contemporary Greek artistic creation, the Cultural Society of Entrepreneurs of Northern Greece, in the framework of the Mataroa Project, is opening a call for graffiti and street artists to create artworks on the coastal front of Thessaloniki.

Regardless of style, artists are invited to express their interest and fill in the participation form, adding a description or illustration of the idea they are going to implement. The portfolios will be evaluated by a selected evaluation team, narrowing the final participants to 10 selected artists, who will be invited to create on 2×3 meter self-supported surfaces, in the Mediterranean Park in Nea Paralia of Thessaloniki.

The theme of the first edition of the MATAROA Street Contest focuses on inspiration from the city of Thessaloniki, leaving room for creative interpretation of the concept. Each artist will receive 500€ as a monetary reward, excluding the materials used and covered by the organization. The works will be hosted in the public space of Nea Paralia for a whole year, and will be shown in the printed publications and digital platforms of the Cultural Society and the Mataroa Project.
